Heating Specialties in Bridgeton, NJ is a family business unlike many you’ll find these days. It was founded by Jeffrey Thompson in 1987 whose father was also in the HVAC business, so they know the heating and cooling trade in and out and are passionate about serving you!
Jordan, Jeff’s daughter, works as Heating Specialties’ operations manager and was happy to share more about her family’s “heart” for HVAC to celebrate February, the month of love.
Growing Up in HVAC
“I’ve always wanted to be a part of our family business ever since I was a little kid,” said Jordan. “I literally grew up in it.” She has always been extremely proud of her parents, who started Heating Specialties when her father was just 21.
“It always amazed me how they started it from the ground up, sustained it, grew, and they were able to support our family,” she said. Even in economic hardships, “they were always able to persevere.”
A Family Affair
Jordan and her brother Seth were eager to be involved with the family business. “I was always around all the technicians, and as I got a little older, I helped fold mailers, call for surveys over the phone, detailed the vans and picked up equipment,” she said. “I was always doing something to help.”
Seth has also helped install equipment since high school, and Jordan went to college to get a degree in psychology and returned to the business a few years later. They are extremely proud to have had the business passed down and are working hard to continue to grow the family legacy.
Love for Heritage
Jordan’s family cares deeply about their Native American heritage, with a few different types of tribes in their genes. Jeff’s father (Jordan & Seth’s Pop-Pop) was full-blooded Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape, and so they make it a priority to give a contribution to support this local Native American tribe in South Jersey each year.
Heart for the Community
Heating Specialties also gets involved in the community, especially through their employees and family members. In the past, one of their technicians was heavily involved in St. Baldrick’s. “He would always shave his head, and little boy would insist on shaving his head as well,” said Jordan. “We always supported our technicians and encouraged them in any cause they support.” The family also has a personal friend with Lupus, and several family members participated in a Lupus walk with her this past May, with a donation to support Lupus research.
